Senses
by Rita Baughman, OFS
I see you in early morning, my senses become alive again
The darkness of the midnight dream fades
Your presence dissolves it, dread is expunged
As sunlight escapes from the distant sky
My mind brightens to new possibilities
My eyes act as a prophecy of Your plan for me
A sense of hope fills my being, carrying me onward
New possibilities of fulfilling Your plan excite me
Carrying me from moment to moment
Clarity sets in, everything makes sense
I surrender to Your intention
I am drawn to the colors of the day, replacing grayness
They brighten the sunrise, drawing my eyes to their joy
I allow time for the gifts to be absorbed, enjoying moments
The sense of worth within each flower petal is discovered
Its wafting scent permeates and soothes my mind
I touch the creation, each minute intricacy a perfection
A sense of duty to each of His creations becomes purpose
I look to myself, and the wonder of Your creation
The strong sensation of untaintedness sets in
It pushes all thoughts of transgression from my mind
Leaving only mercy in its place
A sense of security sweeps into my soul
With unending confidence of Your caregiving
The sense of my existence, evident
